Seventeen Strong: Building a Community Through Motorsport

SRO @ Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

One of the most powerful aspects of Operation Motorsport is that recovery does not happen in isolation. It happens through community, shared experiences, and the bonds formed when veterans continue to serve and support one another.

This past weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, seventeen Operation Motorsport veterans and alumni were embedded throughout the GT World Challenge America paddock. Some are volunteering, some are working with race teams, some are supporting event operations, and all are contributing their skills and experience while remaining connected to a community that understands their journey.

What makes this number significant is not simply that there are seventeen veterans at one event. It is a reflection of what has been built together over the past decade. Every beneficiary who joins Operation Motorsport becomes part of something larger than themselves, a network of peers who continue to show up for one another both at and away from the racetrack.

The motorsport environment provides much more than access or opportunity. It creates a place where service members can rediscover camaraderie, rebuild confidence, and develop a renewed sense of belonging. The friendships formed trackside often extend far beyond race weekends, creating lasting relationships built on mutual support and shared purpose.

Seeing seventeen veterans and alumni together at Road Atlanta is a reminder of what success truly looks like. It is not measured solely by the number of events attended or hours volunteered, but by the strength of the community being created and the impact it has on every individual involved.

Team. Identity. Purpose.

One at a time.

Taking on the Streets of Detroit

The streets of downtown Detroit provided one of the toughest challenges of the IMSA season as the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returned to the tight and unforgiving Detroit Grand Prix street circuit.

Operation Motorsport was represented by two beneficiaries embedded with premier IMSA teams throughout the weekend. Mike Vancour worked alongside the crew at Pratt & Miller Motorsports, while Nolan Yuke continued his Motorsport Immersion journey with Meyer Shank Racing.

Street circuits demand absolute precision from drivers, engineers, and crew members alike. With little room for error and a fast-paced race weekend schedule, both beneficiaries experienced firsthand the intensity, teamwork, and professionalism required to compete at the highest levels of sports car racing.

While only two beneficiaries attended Detroit, their participation reflects the strength of our Motorsport Immersion program. Every event provides an opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, strengthen professional networks, and remain connected to a community built on Team, Identity, and Purpose.

Sometimes the impact of our mission is measured not by the size of the activation, but by the opportunities created for each individual veteran—one at a time.

Victoria Day Weekend at CTMP: Purpose in Motion

Volume up! Our friends at Foster Films Canada Inc give us a look at what it is like for our veterans embedded with host motorsport teams in our Motorsport Immersion program.

Victoria Day weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park marked another meaningful step in the journey for our Canadian Motorsport Immersion beneficiaries. Before the racing began, veterans met the teams they would be embedded with throughout the season, building relationships and preparing to work side-by-side with professional crews in the paddock.

The weekend also provided a powerful reminder that recovery often reveals itself in simple moments—a task completed with pride, an effortless smile, a shared laugh, or cheering on a fellow veteran’s success. These moments of connection, confidence, and belonging are at the heart of what Operation Motorsport strives to create.

Adding to the significance of the weekend, we were proud to recognize CPL Mel Moran (Ret.), Canadian Army, as our Operation Motorsport Hero of the Race.

Before the green flag waved, Mel was honoured for service to Canada and for continuing to inspire others through the next chapter of life beyond military service.

Weekends like this demonstrate the power of Team, Identity, and Purpose, and the strength of a community committed to supporting one another—one veteran at a time.

Guitars & Gasoline | Calabogie Motorsports Park

What a weekend. Rain and all.

At Guitars & Gasoline at Calabogie Motorsports Park, our volunteers showed up and delivered. Even with Saturday’s storm cutting things short, the team connected with hundreds of people across the Ottawa Valley, introducing new audiences to what Operation Motorsport makes possible.

And yes… a new raffle record came with it!

Community Impact

Across the weekend, our volunteers connected with hundreds of people at the tent and SIM, with recently retired veterans now exploring their next step and a new volunteer already stepping forward to get involved.

Despite the rain, the momentum carried throughout, with record-setting raffle participation, nearly 70 people taking SIM laps, and strong engagement from fans learning what OpMo does and why it matters. Every conversation opens a door, every lap builds connection, and each interaction helps the next veteran find their way to us.

We are grateful to Calabogie Motorsports Park for their continued support and for hosting an environment where this kind of outreach is possible.

A huge shout out as well to Powersports Garage for backing the activation and supporting the experience at the track. We could not do this without them!

Special Episode: A conversation with Jesse Iwuji

Operation eMotorsport Brings the Heat to the SimRacing Expo in Charlotte!

The energy was off the charts as Operation eMotorsport rolled into the 2026 SimRacing Expo in Charlotte, NC, showcasing the passion, precision, and purpose that define our eMotorsport community. What started as a pandemic pivot has grown into a 12‑season powerhouse league, and Charlotte proved just how far this program has come.

Fans, racers, and sim‑enthusiasts packed the Expo floor to meet our beneficiaries, jump into the rigs, and experience firsthand how sim racing fuels connection, competition, and recovery for medically retiring and retired service members. From wheel‑to‑wheel battles on screen to conversations about service, teamwork, and resilience, the Operation eMotorsport booth was buzzing all weekend.

Our drivers and beneficiaries showed off the same grit and determination they bring to every league race — and the sim racing community responded with huge support. Industry partners, content creators, and fellow racers stopped by to learn how eMotorsport is changing lives and building a stronger, more inclusive racing culture.

Charlotte wasn’t just an appearance — it was a statement.

Operation eMotorsport is here, we’re growing, and we’re racing with purpose.

Stay tuned… Season 13 starts in July, and the momentum is real.

Majors 24 — Endurance Team Race Report

What a race. The Majors 24 is done and our two endurance teams left everything on the track. Heartbreak, grit, night stints, technical battles, and a finish line crossed — here’s how it went down.

Red Team came out swinging. They hit the ground running and surged straight to the front, leading the race and looking like real contenders. Then an LMP2 car made heavy contact and wiped them out — damage done, lead gone, dropped all the way to P18. As if that wasn’t enough, technical issues during the race added further setbacks and made any meaningful recovery impossible. A brutal result that doesn’t reflect the pace this team showed early on. P18 at the flag.

White Team had a nightmare start before the race had even begun — a grid mishap forced them to start from the pits. From dead last. What followed was one of the bravest recovery drives we’ve seen. Through the night stints they fought all the way up to P5. Then another LMP2 hit them, dropping them to P13, and technical issues during the race compounded the damage, making the climb back even harder. They dug in regardless, recovered to P12, and brought it home. That’s the spirit.

Beneficiary Spotlight – Eric Toussaint

Two weeks ago I was at one of the lowest points I’ve experienced in a long time after the sudden loss of my editing companion, Freddie. When Road Atlanta came up, I didn’t want to go. I almost stayed home.

But because of the encouragement from Andrea, Tiffany, Jonathan, my therapist, and the incredible people at Operation Motorsport, I got on the plane and went anyway.

The moment ThatOne GuyDave saw me and wrapped me in a hug, he didn’t need to say much. It was one of those moments that told me, “I see your pain, and you’re not carrying it alone.”

Over the weekend I found myself surrounded by people who genuinely cared. Teams welcomed me into their paddocks, crew members remembered me from previous events, and friends checked in on me. Hearing things like “Love you, man” from Taner, who understands what it means to struggle reminded me why this organization is so special.

These photos are more than race cars to me. They represent healing. They represent purpose. They represent a team that refuses to let someone suffer alone.

If this weekend taught me anything, it’s that Operation Motorsport doesn’t just support veterans and service members when things are going well. When we hurt, they hurt with us.

If you’re a veteran who is struggling, looking for purpose, searching for a sense of identity, teamwork, or simply a reason to get out of the house again, please reach out to Operation Motorsport. Even if you’ve never considered motorsport before, give them a chance.

This weekend helped mend a heart that was hurting.

Thank you to everyone who made that possible.
